How Hospice is Funded
Hospice care is provided at no charge to our families. All residential hospices in Ontario receive partial funding from the Government of Ontario through Ontario Health at Home to cover direct medical costs and the cost of salary and benefits for our clinical staff, nurses and PSWs. This currently represents approximately three quarters of the annual operating budget. That budget is subject to ongoing changes relating to both capital expenditures, required program changes and inflationary pressures.
In order to raise the additional funds needed, The Bridge Hospice has a separate Foundation. The Bridge Hospice Foundation is dedicated to raising awareness and the required funds for The Bridge Hospice, to help families live the important experiences at end of life.
The Foundation’s mission is to ensure enduring financial stability for The Bridge Hospice. The Foundation will engage with the community, practise ethical fundraising, demonstrate responsible donor stewardship, and manage investments professionally. The Foundation must raise on average $400,000 annually to support the Hospice’s operating needs.
